The Messages of Divine Love offer intuitive insight for the week. Through using tarot or oracle cards, these readings channel guidance from Mother Earth, who supports us, the ancients who walk with us, the guides who urge us toward growth, Mother Mary who loves unconditionally, and our future selves looking back on the signs we see around us today.
Because I exist as a bisexual, disabled Chicana and have a history of working in trauma-informed care & public policy, these readings are offered through the lens of political awareness that speaks directly to the times we live in today.
INTRO NOTES TO THE DECK & READING
It feels silly sometimes to continue making this content amid all the problems that are arising in the world, but that's why I do - to keep each other afloat in the middle of these problems.
I pulled the cards later than normal, waiting until after Easter dinner with my family. The cards I pulled were, as you will see, less than favorable. But as I got into them, they were less about the fearful outcomes and more about the resilience needed to survive together. But the message was clear - we are gearing up for a confrontation that will likely result in not just metaphysical death, but the more literal kind as well.
And that's what scares us all, what keeps us up at night, and prevents us from really connecting truly with one another: the possibility of violence. Even if we are committed to non-violence in our fundamentals, we know we cannot control how others react and how they'll pivot when the time comes. That creates a layer of distrust that is hard to shake. We are asked to do what is right vs. what is easy (and yes, I made that reference on purpose). Easy is laughing at others' pain - like J.K. Rowling does; right is reaching out when our hearts are breaking and our body is failing - like Pope Francis did.
Mother Earth reassures us that we can survive if we focus on what we have in common instead of what we are going through in isolation. It doesn't have to be as bad as it sounds. It actually can be that moment where we pivot into something far more connected and intertwined. But it will be painful, because we have to unlearn all the separation and distrust that infects our systems. Look for others who are hurting - not to compare, but to comfort.
Pope Francis was an exemplar of this kind of human-driven advocacy and heart-centered leadership. When I found out he passed, I cried for a full hour. A fellow Sagittarius, he showed that with enough faith, you can truly begin to change the world. He offered a moral compass that now seems in short supply. Much will be said of his accomplishments, even more will be said of his failures, but few will understand how it feels for a visionary like me to see this light go out.
While he still lived, I could remain content in the shadows, let him take the lead on changing hearts and minds needed to move the needle on one of the oldest institutions in the world. But without him, I feel alone, overwhelmed, too small and unworthy to pick up even a small pebble of the work he did. But I will have to, we all will have to, if we want to survive this together.
This week’s reading dares us to act in a way that knits us together instead of ripping us apart. We have work to do - much of it internal, much of it relational, all of it difficult, and all of it urgent.
The beginning is here; act accordingly.
Where We Are This Week
Ten of Cups (R)
Sacral Chakra
Any wonder why the sacral chakra featured so prominently last week, when we are starting this week with a death that has almost as much global influence as the election of Trump, except on a deeper, moral level? The fate of the world is even more precarious than we believed before, like cups stacked and teetering on the edge of a table. Every time we feel like we’re making progress, getting things stable again, someone comes and knocks the cups down again, making us feel like we have to start from scratch. But instead of seeing this as a loss, we must find a way to transform it into an opportunity. But none of that happens without dealing with our grief.
From Our Guides
Death
Crown Chakra
You have to understand - as these cards were drawn - the ten of cups reversed in the center, the Death card above, and the ten of swords reversed below - all of that pointed to a giant grief we’ll have to overcome to truly ascend to our highest selves. This is a “big death” in a dual sense: a big “Death” when it comes to the big deal we tend to make out of the death of the ego in a personal sense, but also a “Big” death in the very literal someone important “becoming an angel” sense. That is the biggest reason this reading is late. I couldn’t see who only but it was something big that would force us to face the truth about ourselves. With the Temperance card last week, I feel we have one of the last significant signs before our fate is too late, and we will have to dance with the devil of awareness.
Messages from Lady Gaia/Mother Earth
Ten of Swords (R)
Root Chakra
Resistance is not futile. There is always value in standing your ground. And even in defeat, you will still rise. But you don’t have to do it all on your own. You will need community and connection to recover from these blows, to keep going when the chips are down. The choice to reach out will offer significant opportunities to combine forces for survival. Increase your odds by putting aside your pride and finding commonality in your struggles instead of competition in your egos.
Messages from the Ancients
The Hanged Man (R)
Throat Chakra
“If you care so much, then you won’t be afraid of facing the mirror so you can care better.” When the Hanged Man is reversed, it’s an annoyance of contradictions - you’ve changed your viewpoint only to be smug in the righteousness of the new viewpoint, as if the mere act of changing your mind makes you invincible to criticism. Not so. We still have to face our stuff. Things won’t get moving until we give up the illusions of control and surrender to the awareness.
Messages from Our Future Selves
Seven of Wands (R)
Crown Chakra
Look, it won’t be over until it’s over. Patriarchy doesn’t just stand down after losing a battle…or even when it’s inevitable that they’ll lose the war. Too many will throw themselves on the pyre of complicity before the year is over. We can expect more people to cower for safety under a lead authoritarian umbrella, trapping themselves on the other side of a chasm they won’t be able to bridge. It is imperative that you not give up, no matter who falls, no matter who surrenders. Their surrender doesn’t have to signal your own. You will be overwhelmed - plan accordingly so you aren’t standing all by yourself.
Messages from Mother Mary
Queen of Swords
Third Eye Chakra
You will have to be far more discerning in how you spend your time and energy, and especially in who you trust. I’ve already caught myself sharing misinformation a few times last week - I got a little too confident in sources that ended up acting impulsively. This week, in particular, do not spend time with the people who aren’t in it to win it with you. Slay them with your silence if you have to, but don’t give an ounce of your energy to those who seek to divide, harm, tear down, or distract. Be vigilant of your boundaries and protective of your intellectual space.
Undercurrents
Nine of Coins
Heart Chakra
In all of this chaos, there is a small, but persistent voice that whispers, “It will all work out exactly as you need it to.” Trust that you’re planting all the right seeds for a future you want, and soon your actions will nurture those seeds into fruition. The secret sauce is this equation: (a) you feel in your heart that you deserve these good things + (b) you apply your power to make them happen x (c) the persistent belief that they will, indeed, happen. The undercurrent shows that the more you put yourself into this magic equation, the more the right results will be delivered to you.
Final Advice
Five of Wands
Solar Plexus Chakra
For as challenging as this reading is, this card is the one that made me want to bang my head. Because sadly, it tells me that the challenges we’re facing now are meant as a leveling up - an accelerated boot camp of sorts. It’s meant as a shit-or-get-off-the-pot motivation to do better, to finally make a choice and put your muscle into it. If you really mean it, then you’re gonna have to get used to being uncomfortable and not always being “the best” at a given thing. Just remember to not fight the people who are on your side, but instead find the opportunity to become as adept as they are at handling these challenges. That skillset, but especially that humble courage, is particularly important this week.
PARTING WORDS FROM A GEEK EMPRESS
I pulled these cards around 4 pm on Easter Sunday, just hours before the Pope’s death. Waking up Monday morning, a voice told me, “There is no going back now. This changes everything. This is the last chance for change.” The very first thing I read on my phone was about his death. I was in tears for a full hour, feeling more alone than I have this whole time. A voice that cares deeply about humanity, that offered reconciliation and hope to so many, who owned his flaws and humbled himself, he exemplified the kind of heart-centered leadership I speak about - it was just hit too close to home for me, and I wanted a little distance before posting this.
As a reporter from CBS News put it, despite warnings from his doctors to stay and rest, the Pope was out and with the people because "he wanted to die on the battlefield." How fitting that the "battlefield" for this pope wasn't territory, money, or power, but reaching out to provide the affection, trust, and honesty that each human heart longs for. He made people visible in ways that influence the strength we have available to us now. He helped win hearts toward the cause of the most vulnerable, just as Christ would have done. And as much as I want JD Vance to take that signal to let it manifest in a change of heart, more than anything, I hope that's what it does for the rest of us.
We know that true, lasting change will hinge on our individual and collective ability to face hard admissions about ourselves instead of constantly pivoting from one excuse to the next. This is critical. For those who don't take that task seriously, they will soon be overwhelmed by the incisive truth, cut down with the knife they tried to bury in our backs (Mother Mary - Queen of Swords). Yet some things cannot be denied: Climate change will continue, economic instability will tumble us into isolation, and pandemics will continue to spread. At some point, it all will break - and what will we do then?
That is why community matters more than ever before. And it will be led by "ordinary people" like you who will be the leaders of a new movement. It will not come from those bestowed with official power, but those rooted in the ancient, interconnected origins of it. Retreat to those spaces that help you root in because it's about to get dark and stormy out there. When the winds are howling lies and the floods threaten your safety, only community can offer the grounding you‘ll need to resist and grow.
May your week be blessed with love that reminds you of our interconnected truth: We are never alone💖

It brought me a bit of joy to see Yoshi Yoshitani's Tarot of the Divine here - it's my favorite (and the only deck I own.... for now). Softened the blow just a teensy little of a heavy reading. But one I am glad I read. We are stronger together than apart.
