The Messages of Divine Love offer intuitive insight for the week. INTRO NOTES TO THE DECK & READING
So...about last week: The Dark Side of Acceptance detailed some harsh truths which played out over the week - there is no going back to what was. Innocence has been lost, and the perception of goodness has been so distorted that truth is now becoming the rarest of commodities. Annoying as it may be, it is further proof of the fracturing of our realities and the chasm of understanding opening between us.

This is the dark side of acceptance - we accept that we cannot follow where they are going, which means we also have to accept that we cannot truly “save them”. They’re going to have to find their way out, motivated by the awareness that bubbles up from within - all we can hope is that we’ve planted enough seeds that will grow into the bridges, breadcrumbs, and clearings they need to find their way back to reality. The sad truth we've all had to face this week is that some people are swimming in the Kool-Aid so deeply that there is no hope of reaching them in time. We have to hope they find a bridge to rebuild a solid relationship with us. Because the effort and sacrifice can no longer be ours alone. They’re going to have to prove how brave they are by crossing that threshold themselves.
Maybe today I’m more sensitive than most. It’s Cinco de Mayo, a celebration that honors the ganas of standing against impossible odds at the Battle of Puebla, the sister city of where I grew up. Yet, even on a day that has become a symbol of Chicano social resistance, a history I know too well, I was once again accused of being “nothing but an entitled gringa”. I have the last name Rose, the genetics of a white girl, but was raised by the Mexican half of my family, my soul beats in grita and green chile. My professional experience has required me to bridge that and many other realities in order to thrive - acceptance of that merged reality is the absolute minimum I require in those I trust.
I have written more on Patreon about the raw acceptance that certain family members will always be estranged to me, not because of their beliefs, but how those beliefs created behaviors that taught me not to trust them. Their beliefs led to inaction, a failure to protect me. I didn’t abandon them, they abandoned me first. I just gave up being the only one to make an effort, to keep up the mask, to endure the humiliation of rejection over and over. When their beliefs require a reality of separation - a dual between us and them, alike and different, good and bad, they broke faith by denying the glittering unity we could have had.
Because if they can build their reality, then I shall build mine. And in my reality, we kneel in the presence of the suffering, we fight for the preservation of justice, and we connect with the truth of vulnerability. They have set the terms for too long; time to take back the fantastical reality of the space between us and force them to wade into the liminal gray areas they dare not look. Dualism will fracture under its own weight, and soon, those of us who routinely inhabit the in-between spaces of life will have our day to shine.

Justice

Take it from a former lawyer, Justice requires vigilance. It doesn’t happen automatically or perfectly. It’s messy, it’s loud, it’s confrontational, it’s adversarial by its very nature. But only because we are messy, loud, confrontational, and adversarial by our very nature. We are seeing what happens in real time when people who don’t know how things work, like due process or tariffs, can be manipulated into a harmful frenzy so easily. So many want to make this a left-right divide when it is a top-down one. Chaos and injustice serve give an easy escape hatch from accountability, as we are seeing with Elon Musk and how “government efficiency” seems to line up directly with his self-interest. Where connection is prioritized, inclusion follows and wherever inclusion is, justice becomes the norm not the exception. But for us to have that world, we do literally have to fight for it. We have to step up to the plate to make it happen. Accountability won’t come easily, but it is inevitable once we’re all paying attention.

This is a big, giant hint to step back from the saviorism. Going back to retrieve people, ideas, or institutions that don’t support our authenticity will only bring us pain. Step away from the struggle long enough to see how it might be keeping us stuck in bias or people pleasing when we could be breaking free to pursue something bigger and brighter for all of us. If we stop to consider “why” we’re doing something, we might find a more coherent path forward instead.

Conversely, the Knight of Pentacles here is telling us to stay true to the journey that has been outlined for this stretch. Don’t get distracted by what we’ve been asked to do, even if it seems like all is crashing down around us. The advice “watch out for stowaways” was so loud that it is included here - there will be those who want to hang onto your coat tails, but are instead weighing you down. Make them go “the legal way” through one of the defined entrances/gates into your life rather than letting them tag along without mutual benefit. Be fierce with your boundaries and don’t let them take more than they give.

We all have some unfinished business with our families and personal histories before we can move forward. It might be emotional, but it’s more likely logistical - a need to clear your head of obligations that have been nagging at you. As much as it might be an unpleasant set of tasks, it will free up so much emotional and mental space to finally have it done. For me, that looks like finishing up my dad’s estate, so I can finally look to the future instead of the past. Whatever it is, take advantage of this time to get it done.

Even though it’s going to crack the very foundations, the only way out of this mess will be facing down the most deceitfully dirty dehumanizing forces we know. They will stop at nothing to paint us the enemy, but the more they rely on old systems of duality - keep burying the nuance to force feed their reality to the world, the more easily they’ll leave behind their mistakes for us to expose. I mean, it’s already been happening, but soon, we’ll be able to pull back the curtain enough to expose the oppressive duality controlling us all.

Who is pulling your strings? You? The universe? Some other forces that control our attention spans? Mother Mary has a multitude of messages - so let me see if I can braid them all together at once: We are being asked to take care of old business so that we don’t have any regrets hanging over our heads, any attachments to old systems or false hopes that are informing our future. Because all of those things can become the strings that they’ll use to manipulate us, so we need to wrap them up ASAP before the strings (tariffs, etc.) start pulling at our lives in uncomfortable ways. Similarly, the more mental room that we make for our authentic selves, the stronger we become in pushing the mirror back at the false prophets and anti-Christ go-getters who are currently tearing our world apart. We are being put into the perfect position to take control over our collective destiny. We could either stop fighting it - letting the divine guide us - or we could keep dancing on the end of a people-pleasing, avoidant string of a false world. Ultimately, if we want to seize back control over our lives, we have to choose to pull only on our own strings and not get caught up in others’.
Embedded, though, is a deep, resonant responsibility to one another. We have to honor that it is not for us to know everyone else’s path, that we cannot, nor should not, be pulling anyone else’s strings. We are warned against becoming a new “puppet master”. The trap of tyranny spirals out of a lust for power. Don’t let old powerlessness cause us to become the new enemy when it’s our chance to command. How will you be different?

The window is narrowing on the chances left to fight for your freedom. The more space you take up right now, the more room you’ll have to hold on to your authenticity. There are darker days coming, and if that territory is not staked out now, it will be harder to win later. But I don’t just mean fighting for your freedom with Trump. I mean the freedom within your own heart. Like choosing to take a chance on love. The freedom to travel and explore a new horizon or career. The freedom to heal from ancestral pain. I mean, friends, I want you to fucking live in the here and now. Go out for that dinner, say yes to that date, do that crazy road trip with the family. Those heart-centered memories bring joy and life when the winds are whipping around your face. They bring tears of hope when you need it most. Don’t you dare let the sun go down on yourself - don’t comply in advance by dimming your glorious truth.

Part of the reason we have to claim all that internal space is that soon we’re going to have to truly perform and leave it all out on the stage (sort of like Freddie Mercury, the inspiration for this card and this week’s Geek Theme). We won’t be able to do anything by half-measures anymore. There is no calling it in when liberty and the pursuit of happiness are on the line. Passion will matter so much more than perfection. Your courage is rising to meet the moment. Be ready to grasp that opportunity and give it your all soon. You’ll know exactly when.

There are some distortions in the fundamentals that we think we know. Fundamentals that have led to assumptions like “there are only two genders” or “due process is only for citizens”. These distortions are feeding some awfully big, terrible realities like the erasure of trans and nonbinary folks from society or the deportation of asylum seekers from our country. These distortions start small, like cracks in the foundation of our awareness, and start to spread apart into a chasm fed by false heartache and fear. And what’s worse is ALL of us, myself included, are susceptible to it. So, do yourself a giant favor this week and clear your vision by confronting biases and assumed dualities. Trace how these presumptions carry impacts well beyond you.
PARTING WORDS FROM A GEEK EMPRESS
After that exchange earlier today, I received a rude reminder of a friend who went down the QAnon route back in July 2020. Her profile was suggested despite the number of times I’ve blocked her, unsubscribed from her newsletters…she even tried adding me here a few months ago. It has turned out to be the perfect example of what this reading is about: the fracturing of reality from dualism into something bigger.
The old Janet would have given her a chance, wary but wanting to stand up to the person I say I am: forgiving and kind. After all, I had known her since 2008, the psychic who helped me understand the past life encounters I was having with my partner, Ted. She had always been accurate, so when we went to see her the night before the election in 2016 I believed her when she predicted that while she didn’t like anything about him, Trump would win and it would crack apart the very foundations of our country, revealing a seedy underbelly we weren’t ready for.
While I do wholeheartedly agree with that vision (I’ve had it too - except I know more about the political and psychological influences at play), I disagreed with her proud proclamation after “That’s what I don’t vote!” as if that’s supposed to somehow distance her from that result. Why I thought I could trust her in 2020 when it was clear Trump was sowing doubt into our elections, I don’t know…but when she started suggesting Ivermectin and zinc pills, her guides suddenly giving anti-vaxx advice, talking in code over Zoom because “the deep state is listening” I was starting to question my reality and my own judgment. How could I be this wrong about someone?
The crack widened when she had a wild channeling session where her “guides” started pointing to a deeply problematic and biphobic framing of Freddie Mercury, the same kind of narrative that my partner and I have endured for a lifetime. As the only queer people on that call (and at that I was only Latina/woman of color, because…of course) we were offended at how her “guides” were speaking with the words of division, the sting of exclusion, the fucking minimizing and dehumanizing bias of an enforced binary. Interpreting everything exactly the way QAnon wanted them to: “We are the real victims of degenerates who prey upon children. We must save the children!” Yet, none of the words demonstrated even a rudimentary understanding of systems that we were navigating every day for the most vulnerable in society, the LGBTQ+ children at great risk of trafficking. They were claiming wounds that we’ve actually borne - the true dangers embedded in those biases threaten to drown us all.
I haven’t spoken with her since she platformed someone who called Donald Trump a savior, applauding corruption. Along with her guest, she gleefully shared every conspiracy theory she could, giggling over the potential bloodshed that was coming (January 6). To see her today after Trump has made such a mess of pretty much everything, proving nearly all of MY predictions true, I see she is back with yet another new identity, another business venture, a new profile name, a new angle she’s using yet still adhering to the false narratives of “da deep state” and RFK goofiness. Still trying to fit in while trying to style herself as a rebel without a clue.
It’s easy to believe anything when you’ve never made it your business to know how anything works. It’s easy to target others when you’ve never made it your business to be curious to understand different cultures. It’s easy to buy into a savior battle between good and evil when you’ve never sat alone with your darkness long enough to admit your biases and originating monster stories. It’s easy to make your friends into enemies when your empathy bypasses the systemic awareness of their struggles. When the whispered rumors of a mysterious few become more important than listening to the lived experience of people you know, then we will see a fracturing of reality under our feet.
While I dislike comparisons, what matters most is that like Freddie Mercury, I have fought to feel confident and comfortable in my own skin. We fought for the right to be here, to be who we are, to occupy space that society tells us shouldn’t exist: a space between, around, and flirting with binaries. All our lives, we’ve been told to choose a side, yet life has primed us to take a stand. Anyone can curate a presence that fits the common narrative; it takes courage and strength to hold up the bridge between two realities - to float in the infinite trust of the space in between.
I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of people who were too indifferent to be invested before this to be the ones who get to define what life is like after this. If reality and indeed, duality, is going to crack apart, then I want the people who have had to straddle too many realities to be the ones to pull those cords together, to bridge the gap, to define the new vision of what an inclusive tomorrow can look like.
