Shadow Grid Archives: The Threshold Arrives
August 1, 2026/ The price of a promised, yet uncertain future is to surrender the compulsion to always have to prove our worth first
Welcome, new Travelers, to the Shadow Grid - the journey through the underworld...err... undercurrents that came up in the Messages of Divine Love this week.
The full moon offered the light of a new possibility: a realization that the prior way of living would no longer suffice. Something has to change. The Shadow Grid shows us how the exclusion, the silence, the pain, and separation are showing us the deepest of our unhealed wounds.
No one is immune from the damage; this lightning hit the one tower we thought would be left standing. No matter how prepared we were, it’s coming down all around us, revealing the worst parts of our denial.
Each of us has been called to a path, beckoned toward a portal. The price of a promised, yet uncertain future is to surrender the compulsion to always have to prove our worth first. Just do it.
Allow me to direct you back to the Undercurrents from this week’s reading:

Do not neglect the defense of your spiritual vision. It is being augmented by AI, invaded by algorithms that want your attention. Do not take your eyes off the prize, but also don’t neglect the help that you could be calling in. Especially with a full moon coming up, don’t pass on the chance to call in those deities, angels, guides, ancestors, and ascended elders for the help and clarity you need. We truly need all the help we can get. Don’t be afraid to tell your story. In fact, that might be the way you find the help you deserve instead of the emptiness you assume is there.
This Shadow Grid picks up where this one leaves off. Walking through this passageway, a creaky staircase leads downstairs. With each step, it feels like another brick was added to an imaginary load on your back. You’ve never felt this...burdened. It isn’t the load that will kill ya; it’s how you carry it.
And carry it you do. Laden down by one trinket after another, reminders of some of your most shameful moments. You never even think to put it down - it all belongs to you; it should be your burden to shoulder all on your own.
Right?
You’re panting and fatigued when you meet the Shadow Guide assigned to lead your tour. He holds an empty tin cup in one hand, his other hand wrapped around a staff to hold himself up. He groans, and you can swear you hear his stomach rumbling with the jealous hunger of exile. His bitterness is apparent, upset that no one has noticed him standing on the outside looking in. He eyes you suspiciously, “Oh, you think you’ve been so mistreated. Bah. Try being alone for centuries, abandoned and ignored by everyone who passes my way.”
The shame washes over you, not only for the rejection of your relative abundance compared to him, but how he illuminated your worst fears - being forgotten, alone, excluded, or rejected. A gem dropped into his cup - a dull amber lump, the groaning awareness of how our own hunger for attention and approval has caused us to give up our power to others, bitterness invading our bones with an icy urgency.
We follow the guide down the hallway, the gem clinking lightly in his cup. We approach a door decorated with lightning bolts and space ships. The guide rolls his eyes, “Thinks he’s a mad scientist, this one. Best use these before entering,” handing each of us safety glasses before rapping his staff against the door.
It opens on its own, and there stands a ten-year-old you surrounded by blueprints, plans, sparks flying as dreams are under construction. He leans in, and you see two other versions of your life - the one who tried to bury this dream and the one who rediscovered it and asked, “Why did I ever let you go?” The three of you are conspiring, making a long-awaited manifestation come to life. Lightning hits a tower, cracks begin to fall, and all three look at each other, nodding like this was planned all along.
A marble with little gold lightning bolts drops into the Guide’s cup, rolling around, clinking against the amber, warming the tin with little flashes of light. “Clever of you to finally let that kid dream free,” you think he’s about to deliver a compliment, but his sourness returns, “but that’s why you always had to mask who you really were, huh?” The sting reminds you that in the distorted reality of the Shadow Realm, even positive achievements carry the lash of a lesson.
The hallway continues through bleak grey, unfinished walls, like rooms hastily erected to encase a growing brood. The next door carries the heavy perfumed stench of a strip mall psychic trying just a little too hard to appear the part. He doesn’t even bother to knock before a voice croaked, “Enter, and let me see these travelers.” A crackling neon sign in the window announced psychic readings for $15, but the dingy table, the dried blood on the counter, the crime scene waiting to happen in the living space unsettled you. Stubby fingers trifled through a deck of cards, “Want to know your future? Wait for that boy...he’s just gathering up the courage to tell you how he feels...” her voice croaks as a raw amethyst drops into the beggar’s cup, breaking against the lightning marble.
“Dizzy bitch...lost her man over a year ago and keeps making these predictions hoping he’ll come back,” the room continues to deteriorate as every card predicts the same theme - wait for the man - put yourself on hold until masculinity is ready. Oh boy.
The tour continues down a winding corner, some stairs up and down and around; you could have sworn the bottom of the floor was actually an elevator. Disoriented, the next door pops up out of nowhere. The Guide says, “Oh, this one is upside down,” he says with his eyes lighting up for the first time, “That means that whatever choice that can make a difference in this timeline is coming up for you...don’t fuck this up.”
The door opens onto the scene of a woman breaking free from her bindings - ropes and chains snapping away from her body, wiggling free from the cage of swords around her. A portal begins to open on the other side of the scene. It looks ominous and threatening. You scream to warn her, but your voice gets sucked into that black hole about to consume her. You want to help, to rescue her, but the Guide blocks you with his staff. Impatient, you see her hands free, her blindfold loosened; some of the swords have begun to fall under the shifting sands beneath her feet. Once she is finally free, her arms scraped and bruised during her liberation, she bows to the Guide, touches her hand to her heart, and waves before lunging toward the portal and disappearing into the howling darkness.
A horrific clink drops into the cup, a glittering emerald from one of the swords that had gotten free. It dances with the marble and happily tumbles along with the Guide’s shaky gait. You have the power, you hear a voice sing from the tin container as the tour continues.
Not to be outdone, the next door looks like a giant locker from high school. The memories flood your senses before the guide can bother to prepare you. The echo of the morning bell, the gossip whispered behind cupped hands, the loud giggles and torturous temptations of old crushes. The Guide rolls his eyes and knocks on the metal door three times. It springs open and reveals a pizza party happening inside.
It isn’t just you, it’s all of us standing there, sharing in a time-honored ritual of under-compensating effort with greasy goodness. The music is from the 1990’s, the hairstyles and jewelry too. Except now we’re displaced - our hips hurt, our stomach can’t handle the cheese anymore. Trophies line the table, a pizza awards banquet, a reward for the best readers in the school maybe? The real reason for the celebration matters less than the feeling of relief, reward for a class effort; the celebration, no matter how trite, still matters. You can’t help but smile at the innocence of it, ignoring the meager incentives we once settled for.
“Ha!” the Guide laughs as a red stone beats like a heart in the cup. The stones interact and play as he says, “Sometimes the missing ingredient is the time it takes to remember how meaningless matters once mattered more to your replenishment. You’re luckier than you know, kid.” He ambles around the corner into a dark lair, a cold washing over the hallway, icy pain stinging your lung with each inhale.
You finally reach a rusted garage door, sort of like the one you’ve been complaining about to the HOA. Shame erodes the last of your willpower - you want off this deeply personal ride. The Guide uses his elbow to punch a button on the wall, and the door cranks open slowly, squeaking the whole way. “Who dares enter my realm?” a voice calls out from the dark,
“It is I, My Lady, your humble servant. I have brought the supplicants to be weighed and measured.” A spotlight drops down on all of us, illuminating the group. A sudden jolt, the sound of chains and pulleys, and slowly you lift into the air, swinging slowly from side to side. A pregnant pause while the woman hems and haws from the shadows. “You brought me some gems of worth, but one is missing,” she dangled a blue diamond from a string. “Just like the facets of this gem, each experience holds both the possibilities of trust and disappointment. Your words, thoughts, and actions will make the difference between the two. Don’t keep being a dick by looking a gift horse in the mouth.” She opens her hand, and the gem drops from above on the scale that is weighing us together.
The bottom falls out, and we descend even lower, the blue gem the only source of light - even the lightning marble can’t illuminate what’s next.
If the prior chamber was cold, this one is hotter than hell. The Shadow Guide falls silent, no more snide looks or cynical statements for he finally sees what he had also come to seek - himself. There, standing reflected in a solitary mirror, is the Guide now dressed as a resplendent knight in white and gold, a cup borne across his chest with a sun rising out of it. The sun is what’s providing the warmth - the Guide begins to remove layers of his tattered garments. Each scarf told a story, every hole an unmended memory. It isn’t until he’s standing bare that you see him for who he really is...
The knight in the mirror smiles and offers the Guide a golden nugget from his hand. None of us can hold back tears as we watch his body transform - no longer hunched over, but strong with vibrant life. No longer dirty and discarded, but glowing with purpose. He turns around, now wearing the armor, a laughing smile to greet you. Before you know it, he’s told his entire sad tale - the abuse, the bullying, the closeted fear buried under layers of resentment that kept him from connecting with the people who could have helped him when he was at his worst. He offers you the tin cup, dropping the golden nugget in, “Here, I no longer need these...take them as a symbol of your lessons here today.”
The Guide, now transformed into his truest self, lights the rest of the way through the spiral staircase, pushing through the heavy wooden door and the stone pathway that leads back to the same crossroads that the Messages of Divine Love offered you. In one direction you see the Tower, the looming chaos of breakneck winds and burning structures. On the other is the equally scary prospect of facing Judgment Day. Each path offers a different experience of the same question: Are you worthy of what comes next?
The Guide offers each of us a small satchel of gems retrieved during this trip - the lump of amber, the broken amethyst, and so forth. But just before he hands it to us, alarm bells ring and trumpets flare. “Oh my god, you are the winners!!” as a blinking Yes! crosses the sky. He produces a second bag, one containing raw, broken pieces of each of the colors. “Choose the one that calls to you and let that guide your next steps. Share the rest with others you encounter along the way.” He gives a hug to each of us before departing.
In the quiet of the wtf-ness of what we just witnessed there, we each open our sacks and read the small card inside, “Make yourself a vow under the light of the moon” it reads, the word “Full” crossed out and a line scribbled in purple ink that reads, “Promise the moon that you’ll honor her by trusting the uncertainty, no matter what you choose.”
